ABA Terms You May Hear
BCBA
A Board Certified Behavior Analyst who assesses your child’s needs, develops an individualized treatment plan, and supervises the clinical team supporting your child
Antecedent
Whatever happened immediately before a behavior. Often the most useful part of the picture.
Reinforcement
Something that follows a behavior and makes that behavior more likely to happen again. Effective reinforcers are individualized based on what is meaningful and motivating to each child.
Generalization
Whether a skill learned in one place shows up in another. The real test of whether teaching worked.
Assent
Your child's ongoing agreement to take part, communicated however they communicate. We watch for it constantly.
Stimming
Self-stimulatory behavior. Usually regulating, usually helpful, and not something we target.
